Bird Buddy, the pioneering startup renowned for its AI-powered smart bird feeders, has unveiled its latest innovation, which notably deviates from its traditional bird feeder product line. This new offering, known as Bird Buddy Explore, represents a digital product that provides users with the ability to access live feeds from Bird Buddy cameras situated in diverse global locations, extending beyond the continental United States to places such as Hawaii, Kenya, Chile, and Bhutan.
This strategic addition expands Bird Buddy’s accessibility beyond its established customer base, thereby democratizing the pursuit of birdwatching across a broad spectrum of locations and habitats, transcending the confines of one’s personal backyard.
The company underscores the abundant content available for this new feature, as it continuously records two years’ worth of interactions with nature on a weekly basis through the Bird Buddy app. Remarkably, Bird Buddy smart bird feeders contribute to the logging of over one million bird detections worldwide each day.
To utilize Bird Buddy Explore, users are required to download the flagship Bird Buddy app, which is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. Previously reserved for feeder owners, this app now encompasses a dedicated Explore section, identified by a “globe” icon. Within this section, users can peruse remote bird feeders located around the world and select the one of their choice for live viewing by simply tapping “connect to feeder.” Subsequently, upon adding a new feeder, users receive “postcards” containing photographic snapshots and videos of visiting birds at that particular location.
In addition to furnishing birdwatching feeds, the Explore feature offers enriching educational content about each encountered bird species. Moreover, Bird Buddy TV, a more lightweight feature, presents users with a vertical video feed akin to TikTok, featuring live bird sightings captured by various customers’ feeders.
Concurrently with the digital product launch, Bird Buddy is introducing two accessories designed to diversify the range of bird species attracted to its feeders. The Bird Buddy Perch Extender offers an expanded perching area to accommodate larger birds, while the Bird Buddy 3-in-1 Nutrition Set encompasses a water fountain, jelly tray, and fruit spike to entice birds such as orioles and finches.
Bird Buddy’s co-founder and CEO, Franci Zidar, underscores their mission: “We are committed to fostering a deeper connection with nature and are determined to facilitate daily engagements with the natural world for as many individuals as possible.” He further emphasizes the privilege of providing continuous joy and expresses gratitude to the community for their invaluable support.
The company has also introduced Bird Buddy Pro, a subscription-based offering that empowers users to customize their birdwatching experience by muting or excluding specific bird species, expanding guest slots, and introducing a new frenzy mode to optimize bird detections. Additionally, Bird Buddy plans to introduce a seed subscription service later this fall, ensuring seamless access to the appropriate bird feed for its customers.
Cumulatively, Bird Buddy’s global customer base has installed an impressive 150,000 feeders, each equipped to recognize over 1,000 distinct bird species.
